An update from the Trustees regarding Lynwood and the future of the charity
8th April 2025
For many years the Yorkshire Miners’ Welfare Convalescent Homes charity (YMWCH) has provided convalescing breaks for beneficiaries who are or have been employed in the coal industry in the Yorkshire coalfield area.
The charity has always provided breaks on a subsidised basis by using the charity’s own funds to help meet the cost. The charity does not receive any additional funding and there was always going to be a time whereby there would be insufficient funds to continue on this basis.
YMWCH owns Lynwood, but sadly, the trustees have now had to make the difficult decision that the building will need to be sold in order for the charity to continue using the proceeds of sale.
The building will therefore be put on the market on 11 April with the intention to complete the sale by the end of 2025. Depending on what happens with the sale will determine what will happen in 2026 onwards.
Until a sale is achieved, Lynwood is open for business as usual.
